About BitRanch

BitRanch LLC is a California limited liability company. We design, build, sell, and support desktop software under our own name, without outside investment and without advertising in our products.

Our work is focused on chess and games. These are domains with serious hobbyists, decades-old personal archives, and software expectations shaped by tools that predate the modern web. People in them want applications that stay fast on collections of a million records, run at full strength on their own hardware, and keep working when the network does not. That is the kind of software we build.

How we build

We ship desktop applications for macOS and Windows rather than browser-based products. Data stays on the customer's own machine and the work happens locally. A license is activated online and re-checked from time to time, with a grace period for working offline in between.

We sell software as a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. Customers own the version they buy and receive free maintenance updates for it, and their games and databases sit in files on their own disk. Payment processing and license key issuance are handled by Polar, which acts as merchant of record for our sales.

Support is handled over email by the same people who write the code.
